Major John R. Martin
John R. Martin has been employed with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for over 25 years. During his tenure with the Sheriff’s Office he has successfully fulfilled assignments in Detentions, Personnel Affairs, Criminal Warrants, Burglary and Theft, Financial Crimes, the Public Information Office, Support Services, and Community Services. Currently, he is assigned as the Major over the 1200 Justice Housing Bureau. During his career, Martin was instrumental in establishing the Military Liaison Office, the Earned Early Release Program, and the Inmate Community Work Program.
Major Martin holds a Master Peace Officer Certification, a Master Jailer’s License, and a TCOLE Instructor License. Martin is an adjunct instructor with the Harris County Sheriff’s Academy where he is currently certified as a Ropes Course Facilitator and a Krav Maga Instructor.
Major Martin graduated from Harris County Sheriff’s Academy Class B2-94. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Houston. More recently, he graduated from the 224th Session of the FBI National Academy. He is also a lifetime member of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas.
Major Martin and his wife Dolores have two beautiful daughters, Jessica and Emily, both of whom are currently attending college.

and providing medical/MHMRA care to an inmate population that exceeds an average
daily population of 8,700 inmates.
